Former semi-pro football player, amateur hockey player, and pro-wrestler; Steve Chamberland understands the importance of physical activity. In addition to immediate health and mobility benefits, it also impacts your quality of life, confidence level, and self-worth. It is with this mindset that 50 Legs gladly provides quality prosthetic legs to children, adults, and military wishing to live an active lifestyle. In addition to helping children, Steve has a true respect for those that serve our country and has provided legs for many service men and women. 50 Legs was also one of the first to help and support victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. If you ask Steve how he feels about losing his leg, he might surprise you. “I thank God every single day for losing my leg, as it led me to what I am supposed to do. I just want to help people better their lives.” All you have to do is watch Steve interact with children to see he is truly in love with what he does!

Carmen Acabbo is a native of Boston and graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in Business Management. She is a self-employed Interior Designer, Project Manager, wife, and mother of three. She is an avid runner and advocate of healthy living. Her passion for 50Legs came as a result of her sister Celeste Corcoran, losing both of her legs during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. The initial months of Celeste’s recovery were dire. She was fitted for a set of prosthetics that left her unable to walk without pain. When it seemed as if a life spent in a wheelchair most of the time was inevitable, Steve Chamberland’s persistence that Celeste get help through 50Legs paid off. Celeste not only recovered her mobility but her spirit as well! Having seen firsthand the life-changing possibilities afforded to patients by 50Legs, Carmen has been motivated to help others receive the same opportunity. She has been the organizer of the 2015, 2016, and 2017 50Legs Boston Marathon Fundraising campaigns. Carmen has assisted runners in raising close to $250,000 in donations. She will be joining the burgeoning 2018 Fundraising Team as a runner herself to mark 5 years of healing and recovery for her family, thanks in part to 50Legs.
